Millie Edwards
I cannot say enough good things about Heather Hills and what moving in to this retirement community has done for me. I wasn’t always as free-spirited as I am now. When I moved in, I made it very clear that I wanted to be called Mildred, and I hated when people called me Millie. Heather Hills’ staff and residents respected my wishes.
We had an event coming up and a few residents and I were going to have lunch with some guests. The staff at Heather Hills asked what I would like my nametag to read because although some people began calling me Millie, the staff knew I always preferred Mildred. I proudly said “Millie would be fine.” The staff member was shocked as she mentioned she thought I would want it to read “Mildred.” Then she said, “I know when you moved in, you never wanted to be called Millie. How come that has changed?” I smiled and told her that Heather Hills has freed me. I came in as Mildred, and now I am Millie. I moved into Heather Hills, and Heather Hills has moved me.

After being a resident of Heather Hills for more than two years, I feel fortunate that my children found just the right size apartment here for my husband and me. His health didn’t allow us to remain in our home. The large two-room apartment is perfect with space for 2 desks, two walls lined with book and art objects plus floor space to fit my large grand piano. Since my husband’s death a year ago, I have discovered many interesting and congenial friends, singles like myself. We enjoy meals and movies, a monthly book club and theater outings. Daily activities provide something for everyone. I’ve had occasion to present piano recitals every few months- it keeps me practicing. My life would be so much less without music. Now I am thankful for the health and hands that allow me to make my small contribution to Heather Hills Family.

Letter from a resident's daughter
Hi Mike,
I wanted to send a quick note thanking everyone at Heather Hills for making my mother's move from 233 to 133 very easy and efficient. The moving "guys" were wonderful, very careful and helpful. Maritza was just wonderful, being sensitive and caring of my mother's belongings and putting everything right where it needed to go. She was more than supportive and helpful. Bob and Stan of course were on the job helping us getting mom settled in her new place. I always enjoy Bob's great sense of humor as it makes a stressful time much more enjoyable. I appreciate all the staff at Village Care, Helen, Debbie and staff for checking in with us during the day and making sure that mom's needs were being met. I also want to thank Kim (dining room) for personally walking mom back from the dining room after dinner so she didn't get lost. The staff has assured me that everyone will keep tabs on Carter and make sure she gets back to the right apartment. One last big thank you goes to LaRae and Mallory for making the logistics of the move go smoothly and without a glitch. They are awesome ladies!! And thank you Mike for all you do for my mom and all the other residents of Heather Hills.
Sincerely,
Sally Gunberg (grateful daughter)

I moved to Heather Hills from the Bay City area to be near my daughter who is an Associate Dean at Grand Valley University. I didn’t know what to expect when I came here, but I really enjoy the atmosphere and the very friendly residents. The staff has been so nice to me and the food in the dining room is excellent. The Heather Hills staff made the transition of moving very easy. I am very satisfied with the location of the village; it is close to everything in Grand Rapids. My daughter did an extensive search for a retirement community that would meet all my needs and Heather Hills is a perfect fit.

Heather Hills is the place to be. The people are so congenial and nice. You will feel like you are living at home except there is no work to do except make your own bed. There is no preparing of meals or washing dishes. Heather Hills has a great kitchen who prepares delicious meals.
Your free time is used in seeing movies, playing bridge, playing bingo, reading in the large library, playing Wii, and many other great activities.
Heather Hills also provides great conveniences such as a post office, bank, barber shop/beauty shop, and movie theater.

After being transferred to Grand Rapids by the company he worked for, my son wanted me to move 130 miles from where I lived so I could be near him and his family.
He brought me to Heather Hills to tour the facility, and as we were leaving he asked, “Mom, do you think you could be happy here?” My response was, “Without a doubt.” It has now been two years, and as I continue to look at my surroundings, I feel a sense of gratification knowing I would not want to live anywhere other than here.

My wife, Frances, and I had been looking for a place to stay who could help us out with everyday activities. We had visited 12 different retirement facilities and then we found Heather Hills, which seemed to meet with all of our needs the best. After my Frances passed away I continued to stay at Heather Hills. The People at Heather Hills are very friendly and nice. The atmosphere is bright and clean and I am also close to my daughter who visits weekly.

Heather Hills is love! Every employee- from the senior management to the servers in the dining room-is so loving and eager to help take care of us. The other residents have made me feel so at home. It is like I’ve lived here for 100 years. Not a day goes by without some exciting activity waiting for you, like a trip somewhere in a beautiful limousine, a musical performance, or a movie in the lovely 35-seat theater.
